Abbott Leo White Obituary (1933 - 2016)

Vassalboro, ME- Abbott Leo White, 82, of Vassalboro, ME, died March 11, 2016 at Oak Grove Center in Waterville, ME after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born in Vassalboro, ME on September 8, 1933, the son of Carrol and Hazel (Sherman) White. Abbott was educated in Vassalboro schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1950. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Abbott worked for over 30 years at Keyes Fibre Company before retiring in 1993. He enjoyed being at his Vassalboro, ME home and talking care of his 22 acres, often referring to it as “God’s Country.” Many people will remember Abbott’s sarcastic wit and joking nature. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Pauline (Sawtelle) White; a daughter, Susan Ann White; 11 brothers and sisters, Donald White, Howard White, Louise Crosby, Pauline Taber, Richard White, Carrol White, Floyd White, Harlan White, Clara White, Stanley White and Hazel Choate. Abbott is survived by three children, Laurie (White) Stewart and husband Foster of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Scott White of Skowhegan, ME and daughter-in-law Donna White of Winslow, ME, David White and wife Heather of Benicia, California; four grandchildren, Jameson White, Lindsay Stewart, Morgan Stewart and Madison White; a sister, Barbara Letourneau of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the many people who provided friendship and comfort to Abbott in his final years, particularly Blaine White and Jean Berard. A private burial will be held in the spring.
