Obituary

Oakland, ME: Arthur L. Anicetti, 84, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 27, 2015 at his daughter's home, surrounded by his loving family. Arthur was born in Lisbon Falls,ME on May 6, 1931, as the first generation American citizen in his family and youngest of four sons of Lamberto and Irene (Conti) Anicetti. He graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1949. He then studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Maine at Orono, until 1951, when he entered the US Navy. He attended naval training schools in Jacksonville, Fla. and Memphis, Tenn. before serving overseas during the Korean War. Following his military service, Arthur received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Maine with a minor in Mathematics in 1959. He earned his Masters in Education from UMO in 1990. Arthur was employed by the Ratheon Corp in Philadelphia, PA, and then IBM where he was a computer programmer with NASA during the Gemini, Apollo, and Saturn Space Programs, and later on the Anti-Ballistic Missile Program. In 1972, Arthur joined S.A.D. #47 in Oakland, ME as a Middle School Teacher and later became Assistant Principal, where he was known to generations of students as Mr. "A". While at the Middle School, he was football and baseball coach and also coach for various Little League teams. Arthur was Director for the SAD #47 Adult Education Program for many years and a longtime member of the School Board. He was an American Softball Association (ASA) umpire for both High School and College. Arthur was a passionate outdoors man, as an avid hunter he enjoyed many hunting trips with his brothers-in-law, his sons, and his grandsons. He also enjoyed ice fishing with his son-in-law and grandsons. In addition, he was a voracious reader and avid follower of sports, traveling miles to watch his sons and grandsons play. As "grandpa", there wasn't a son, daughter, grandchild, or great-grandchild who didn't find peace falling asleep on his big shoulders. Arthur and his wife Phyllis loved the ocean and enjoyed many years of travelling the world on numerous cruises and vacations with close friends before settling down in Naples, FL to avoid the hard Maine winters. They would spend most of their summer days on the coast of Maine in Ogunquit. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis (Rackleff) Anicetti on July 26, 2015. They shared 59 years together. He is also predeceased by 3 brothers, Robert, Lawrence, and Frank. Surviving are his, sons, Rick of Greensboro, NC., Mike and wife Cyndi of Wurtsboro, NY., David and wife Patti of Guatemala City, Guatemala, daughter, Lisa and husband Karl Wrigley of Oakland, ME, grandchildren Heath, Jared, Stefan, Brianna, Brittany, Tyler, Patrick, Casey, Joshua, and Justin, great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anna, Abigail, Kayla, and Kason, several nieces and nephews. Arthur's family would like to thank the many thoughtful and caring people at Healthreach Hospice. Even though it was for a short period of time, they treated our dad with love and respect. Friends are invited to visit from 6-8 PM on Friday November 6 at Lawry Brothers-Wheeler Funeral Home 26 Church St. Oakland, ME. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday November 7 at the Lewis Cemetery, Cottle Road, Oakland, ME. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in his memory to HealthReach Hospice 10 Water St. Suite 307 Waterville, ME. 04901
