Oakland: Claudette L. Carr 77 died Sunday March 25, 2012 at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville following a long illness. She was born in Monmouth on April 25, 1934 the daughter of Alton Eugene and Lena Mae (Whittier) Carr. Claudette graduated from Williams High School in Oakland and attended Thomas Business College in Waterville. Claudette worked a short time at WTVL Radio in Waterville before beginning employment at Scott Paper Company in Winslow at the age of 20. She was employed there 40 years, retiring in 1994 as Compensation and Benefits Manager. She was an active member of the Oakland Sidney United Methodist Church where she was in the Church Choir and a member of the United Methodist Women. Claudette enjoyed music and was a member of the Colby College Community Chorus and a member of Treble Clef. She loved to travel, having taken several cruises, including the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and Panama. She also traveled extensively throughout the United States. She enjoyed cross country skiing, and was proud of the fact she had a piolet s license. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Stanley Eugene Carr, a sister Anne Mae Carr and a nephew Gayson Skipper Greenleaf. Surviving are a nephew Robert Alton Carr and wife Donna of Andover, Ct., 2 nieces; Judith G. Staiger of Fairfield and Cheryl Ann MacCabe Ducette of Oakland, several grand nieces and nephews. Her best friends; Linda Lindy Goldrup of Waterville, Selma Pulcifer and Norma Berryman of Oakland and Janice Talone of Philadelphia, Pa. She will also be missed by her beloved cat Misty. A funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Friday March 30 at Oakland-Sidney United Methodist Church 14 West School Street Oakland. Spring burial will be 1:00 PM May 16 at the Monmouth Ridge Cemetery in Monmouth. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oakland.
