Obituary

WATERVILLE, MAINE--Danut “Dan” Ciucioiu, of 4 Crescent Street Waterville, ME, beloved friend, son, brother, and father, was carried to the bosom of his Heavenly Father at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, after a courageous but very short battle with cancer. Dan was born to Constantin Ciucioiu and Ana (Aradoate) Ciucioiu Postole on January 14, 1957, in Constanta, Romania. In 1989, Dan was in the Romanian Merchant Marine and he jumped ship while in port in Turkey. Although he sought sanctuary, sanctuary was denied and he was returned to his ship. A little later while off the coast of Italy, Dan jumped ship again. He swam to the coast of Italy and claimed asylum. Refugee status was granted and Dan was interned in a refugee encampment to await immigration to the United States, his country of choice. Dan was brought to the United States under the auspices of the Refugee Resettlement Program administered by the Catholic Diocese of Greater Portland, Maine. From there, Dan settled in Waterville, ME where he lived until his death. Dan became a naturalized citizen on April 7, 1995. For a short time upon his arrival to Maine, Dan lived and worked at the Yardarm Inn in Waterville, ME. Next, he worked at the Sandy River Recycling Program in Farmington, ME for several years. During his employment at these two businesses, Dan began studying for his commercial driver’s license. Soon after being licensed, Dan began the career he loved so much, the long haul in an 18-wheeler. He loved the road and made it his home for many years. He drove commercially for C & J in Fairfield, ME until they closed and for Pottle’s Transportation of Bangor until the time of his death. Dan will be greatly missed by his trucking family. Dan was predeceased by his father, Constantin Ciucioiu. Dan is survived by his many American friends who mourn his passing. Also, he is survived by his loving mother, Ana (Aradoata) Ciucioiu Postole; his sister, Angela (Dumitru) Ciucioiu; his brother, Constantin (Nina) Ciucioiu; and his beloved daughter, Dascalu Gabriella Georgiana and her husband, Dascalu Sebastian Cezar. Condolences may be sent to Dan’s daughter at georgianagabriella22@yahoo.com.
