Dawn M. (Simpson) Bickford, 75, of North Belgrade died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Long Term Care at Glenridge in Augusta, after suffering from Alzheimer s. 1. She was born in Waterville on December 13, 1938, the daughter of Clement W. and Mildred (Otis) Simpson. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1957 and Kings College in 1961. She married Roger F. Bickford on February 22, 1964. Dawn taught school at Solon High School and Winslow High School before she and her husband started Sunrise Dairy Farm in North Belgrade. Later they ran As You Like it Custom Sawing and more recently a self-serve vegetable stand on the Smithfield Rd in Belgrade. She was a member of the Oakland United Baptist Church and former member of the Second Baptist Church in Waterville and the North Belgrade Baptist Church. Dawn taught Sunday School, Junior Church , Vacation Bible School was Sunday School Superintendent At Second Baptist where she also served as a deaconess . Dawn served as bookkeeper for The Kennebec County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Dawn was a talented artist, seamstress, and gardener. She will always be remembered for her beautiful work. Dawn is survived by her sons, Wayne C. and his wife Kathy of Clifton Heights PA and Dwayne D. and wife Lilly of Belgrade; a sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Elwood Duke Stevens of Benton and a brother-in-law and his wife, Gerald and Hilda Bickford of Oakland; Sister-in-law Joan Bickford of Winslow; and five grandchildren, Bradley, Mikayla, Nathan, Joshua, and Bethany; several nieces and nephews. Dawn is predeceased by her parents Clement and Mildred Simpson, and husband Roger. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church Street, Oakland. Funeral services will be held at the Oakland United Baptist Church, 45 Church St. Oakland ME at 11:00 AM On Friday, May 23. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade.
