Edward Eugene Hoyt II Obituary (1932 - 2018)

BENTON, ME—On Wednesday, July 18, 2018, Atropos cut the thread of life for Edward Eugene Hoyt II, 85, it was a thick thread, but had grown thin at the end. His daughter, Patricia Doughty, was at his side at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, ME. He began life in Dorchester, Mass., on August 26, 1932. His parents were Edward and Bridget (Whalen) Hoyt of Boston. He attended Boston schools and later in life attended UMA. He was a heavy transport driver in Korea for the USMC and finished his military career as a medic in Vietnam for the USAF. In 1972, he worked as an inhalation therapist at Seton Hospital in Waterville, ME. A few years later he changed gears and was the manager of Fort Halifax Hatchery in Winslow, ME. The last part of his working life was spent as a salesman of police gear, first with FC Wise Uniforms of Augusta, ME, and lastly, Neptune Uniforms out of Massachusetts. He was active in the VFW and American Legion in Fairfield, ME. Eddie served on the Benton town council and was proudly instrumental in the naming of the bridges in Fairfield/Benton for a fallen comrade; veterans were a passion of his later life. The family that he leaves behind includes his wife of 60 years, Patricia Ann (Grard) Hoyt of Benton, ME; his son, Edward Hoyt III of Benton, ME; his daughters, Theresa Marie of Oakland, ME, and Patricia of NH; his grandchildren, Matthew Hoyt and Natasha of Oakland, ME, Michael Doughty of VA, Tommy Doughty of NH, Annie Gregoire of Augusta, ME, and Edward Richard Hoyt IV of Fairfield, ME; his brother, Raymond of Boston; and his sisters, Mary Madden and Marion Katz of Boston. He was predeceased by his brother, David Hoyt, USAF ret., and his sisters, Ruth Hoyt, Barbara Comeau, Eileen Kaskeski, and Dorothy Palmer. In May, his youngest child, Verna Alta Gregoire lost her long fight with cancer. Visiting hours will be form 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 27 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, ME. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield, ME.
