Eileen S. Gould Obituary (2015)

Eileen S. Gould, 104 years old of Fairfield, Maine, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Mount Saint Joseph’s nursing home in Waterville, Maine where she had been residing for eleven months. Eileen was born in Oakland, Maine to Frederick and Ethel (Towle) Short on May 28, 1910. She graduated from Coburn Classical Institute in 1928, and taught at the Montessori School for fourteen years. Eileen and her husband Lloyd lived in Florida for many years, where she loved spending time at the ocean and was a ham radio enthusiast. During her later years, Eileen enjoyed exercising at the Muskie Center in Waterville, ME and was a member of the Sunshine Club. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends and sitting on her porch swing soaking up the sun. She also attended the United Methodist church in Fairfield, ME and was the longest running holder of the Boston Post Cane which she received in 2006. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Ethel Short; her husband, Lloyd Gould; their daughter, Tracey Gould; and her five brothers and sisters, Stanley, Thelma, Ethelyn, Ted, and Glenys. She is survived by her only grandchild, Vita Gould of St. Albans, ME, who was her pride and joy. Eileen is also survived by nephew, John Short of Fairfield, ME and several other nieces and nephews, along with close family friends Larry and Bonnie Post of St. Albans, ME and Jane Marley of Sidney, ME. A memorial service for Eileen will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, ME. Burial will be held at a later date at Friend’s Cemetery.
