Vassalboro, ME-Ellen M. Cunningham, 77, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Ellen was born in Hope, Maine on March 17, 1937, the daughter of Archie and Lillian (Campbell) Reed. She graduated in 1955 from Appleton High School. She married Montie L. Cunningham, Jr. on September 3, 1955. She dedicated the rest of her life to being a homemaker, loving wife and mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother until her recent passing. She and Junior lived in Augusta, Maine for a short time before settling in Vassalboro, Maine for the rest of their lives together. She and Junior enjoyed camping, trips to Moosehead Lake, wintering in Florida and spending time with their family. Other hobbies were following her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities, never missing a Red Sox game, playing cards with the neighbors, spending summers at Webber Pond, doing needlepoint, crossword puzzles, and reading. Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Lillian and Archie Reed; mother and father in-law, Montie and Marguerite Cunningham; brothers, John Reed, Jerry Murphy, and Willis Reed; sisters, Vidy Glidden, and Francis Soper; sister in-law, Mary Reed; brother in-law, Howard Cunningham; sisters-in-law, Anne Cunningham, and Nancy Cunningham. She is survived and will be missed by her husband of 59 years, Montie Cunningham, Jr.; her brother Donald Reed; her sons, Michael of Augusta, Maine, Barry and his wife Sonja of Hampden, Maine, Lee and his wife Nancy of Vassalboro, Maine, and Scott and his wife Brenda of Winchester, Va.; grandchildren, Stacy, Kellie, Mike, Amy, Jessica, Timmy, and Patric; great Grandchildren, Connor, Cash , Aubrie, and Camden; sisters-in-law, Gwen, Donna, Brenda, Jackie, Cherie, Betty; brothers-in-law, Bob, Ronnie, Darrell, Glendon, Tim, and Jimmy. She also has many loving nieces, and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 4, at 11 a.m. at Cross Hill Cemetery, Cross Hill Road, Vassalboro, Maine. Immediately following, there will be a pot luck celebration for family and friends to celebrate Ellen’s life. The location is yet to be determined.
