Obituary

Belgrade: Esther Josephine Childs, 99, holder of the Belgrade Boston Post Cane, died Sunday December 2, 2012 at Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta. She was born in Benton March 23, 1913, the daughter of Ray and Marion (Garside) Weymouth. She was a 1932 graduate of Winslow High School. Esther married Willis Childs in 1945. He died in 2000. A long time resident of Belgrade, Esther worked over 15 years for Fosters Camps and was bookkeeper for her son s business for many years. She enjoyed her flower gardens and doing both crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved taking rides. Esther was creative in woodworking, making lawn ornaments and helping to build her home. Beside her husband, she was predeceased by 2 brothers, Ray Weymouth Jr and Maurice Weymouth. Surviving are her son, Maurice Childs and wife Karen of Belgrade, a brother, Carl Weymouth and wife Janet of Benton, grandchildren, Arthur Charles, Erik Charles and wife Joanna and great grandchildren Sophie and Sam Charles, a sister-in-law, Inge Weymouth, special nieces Karen Van Valkenburg and husband Peter and Kathy Stevens and husband Scott, several nieces and nephews. Esther will be missed by many close friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Glenridge Nursing Home for the excellent care they gave to Esther. Friends are are invited to visit 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday December 7 at Belgrade Lakes Union Church UMC Route 27 Belgrade Lakes where a funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 8. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oakland. ( www.wheelerfh.com ).
