Augusta- Gerald H. Vashon, 94, of Waterville passed away at Maine Veterans Nursing Home on December 24, 2012.

He was born in Waterville, Maine on March 7, 1918. A son of Placide and Josephine (Rodrigue) Vashon. He was educated in Waterville Schools and went on to serve his country for the United States Army during WWII in Rhineland and Central Europe in heavy artillery. Gerald was a member of the Waterville American Legion, VFW, and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #905 and the Lakeview Golf Club in Unity. He also greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid bowler. Gerald was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, now Corpus Christi Parish.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents, and by his beloved wife Gertrude M. (Boucher) Vashon, a son Donald Vashon, two sisters; Cecile Lizotte and Sr. Margaret Vashon, and two brothers; Joseph Vashon and Fr. Lionel Vashon.

He is survived by his loving son Richard (Dick) J. Vashon and companion Brenda Ames of Winslow, a sister Theresa Fortin of Waterville, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29, at 11 am at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Silver St. in Waterville. Burial will take place at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent in Gerald’s memory to the Waterville Area Humane Society 100 Webb Rd. Waterville, ME 04901.
