Gardiner: Gladys Pauline Tobin White, 98, passed away on January 14, 2014 at Maine General at Gray Birch. Gladys was born on November 1, 1915 in Fort Fairfield, Maine. She was the youngest daughter of Ira and Alice (Scott) Tobin. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Rice Ripps in Oakland. She was educated in the Oakland schools. She was proud of becoming a Registered Nurse, graduating from Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, Maine. She practiced nursing in various hospitals, retiring from The Veteran's Administration at Togus, Maine. She enjoyed telling stories and listening to her favorite hymns. Gladys is predeceased by her parents, her sisters Doris Jones, Helen Cates and Phyllis Dee, and a niece Elaine Cates Stout. Survivors include two nephews, Lawrence Murphy (Helen) of Oakland and Michael Cates (Ruth)of Marietta, New York, two nieces, Katherine Stout of Pennington, New Jersey and Gail Jones of Farmingdale, Maine, and special friends Terri Bourke and Millie Howe. The family want to thank the staff and caregivers at Gray Birch for their great care while she was a resident there. A graveside service for Gladys will be held in the spring at Oak Grove Cemetery in Waterville, Maine. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oakland www.wheelerfh.com
