OAKLAND, ME--Horace Mann Pullen was taken to be with his beloved wife Louise on August 19, 2015. He was born in Waterville, ME May 24, 1930 to Helen Crowell Pullen and George Pullen. Horace graduated as valedictorian of his Williams High School class in 1949, attended Colby College and left to join the Air Force where he served during the Korean conflict from 1950-1954. Horace married the love of his life, Louise Ruth Axtell, on Dec. 22, 1951. After leaving the service Horace worked at Farrar Brown in Waterville until he opened his Ford dealership in Oakland, ME in 1958, which later became Pullen Ford Lincoln Mercury of Waterville, ME. Horace served in the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department actively for 35+ years, and served as president of the Oakland Fire Dept. for 10 years. He is a member of the Oakland Masons, and the Oakland/Sidney United Methodist Church. Horace served as a director of the Maine Automobile Dealer’s Association for several years, and as president of MADA from 1978-1980. He served as a director of the New England Ford Dealer’s Association for several years. Horace was the recipient of the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award as a Ford Dealer. Horace had two brothers, Edward Fred Pullen who married Dorothy Hutchinson Pullen, both now deceased, and George Dexter Pullen who married Ruth Bushey Pullen also both deceased. Horace and Louise are survived by Edward Allen Pullen and his wife Kay now of Puyallup, WA., and William Eric Pullen and his wife Carol now living in Oakland, ME. He loved his four grandchildren, Allison and Morgan, daughters of William and Carol Pullen, and Jean Louise and Brett children of Edward and Kay Pullen. He leaves behind many well-loved family members including Donna and Royce Hunter, Frank and Gabby Axtell, Charlie and Donna Pullen and too many nieces and nephews to mention by name. Visiting hours will be Friday August 21 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 Pm at Lawry Brothers-Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St, Oakland, ME. Services will be held at the Oakland-Sidney United Methodist Church, 20 West School Street, Oakland, ME at 10 AM Saturday August 22.
