J. Hobart Pierce Jr Obituary (1929

Oakland:J. Hobart Pierce Jr. 85, died Thursday October 28, 2014 at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta. He was born in Rockville Center, New York on May 21, 1929 the son of J. Hobart and Katherine (McGrath) Pierce Sr. He graduated from Williams High School in Oakland, Class of 1947. He attended Colby College, the University of Maine at Orono, and the University of Maine at Augusta. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Hobart was employed as Vice President of Sales and Design for Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland from 1952 until his retirement in 1994. A long time resident of Oakland, Hobart was a member of the Messalonskee Masonic Lodge AF & AM for over 50 years. He was a 50 year member of the Oakland Lions Club and served as District Governor and Secretary-Treasurer for the Lion Council. Hobart served on the Oakland Town Council and the Messalonskee School Board for 15 years. He was active in KVCOG and United Way. Hobart was honored with the Eagle Award in 2002, the Maine Legislature Award and in the Oakland Town Report. Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Jean (Hutchinson) Pierce of Oakland, children; Sarah Roy and husband Gene of Oakland, John H. Pierce III and wife Mary of Oakland, William Pierce of Oakland, Edward Pierce and wife Sandy of Sidney, James Pierce and wife Cindy of Belgrade, David Pierce and wife Bonnie of Oakland, Jennifer Rice and companion Eric Howe of New Vinyard, Allen Pierce and wife Karen of Acton, Kate Cote and husband Roland of Oakland and Peter Pierce of Monroe, N.H. brothers, Richard Pierce and wife Carolyn of Oakland, and Thomas Pierce and wife Jenny of Amelia Island, Fla., sisters, Janet Buzzell of Waterville, and Judith Balbo of Whitefield, 29 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday October 31 at Wheeler Funeral Home 26 Church Street Oakland. A funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday November 1 at the Light House Ministry Center High Street Oakland. Burial will follow at the Lake View Cemetery in Oakland.
