Jack Stanley, Sr. Obituary (1943 - 2013)

FAIRFIELD, MAINE – Jack Stanley, Sr., 70, of Fairfield, Maine, passed away peacefully Monday, August 19, 2013, at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, Maine. He was born in E. Providence, R.I. on March 11, 1943, a son of Benjamin Warren Stanley, Sr. and Tempie Matilda (Hicks) Stanley. Jack started working with his father at age eleven in the family business in Winslow, Maine, on a tank truck referred to as “The Honey Wagon.” He also attended Winslow Public Schools and worked his way to Massachusetts with his brother Benjamin “Benny” Jr. In 1961, he met the love of his life, Ruth Alice Smith. They were married shortly after and returned to Maine, with their first born son, Jack Jr. where he proceeded to carry on the family business, Stanley’s Septic Tank Service, after his father retired. Jack became a Mason in November 1965, and was a member of the Siloam Lodge 92, in Fairfield, Maine. He belonged to numerous affiliations over the years. He was a member of the Elks, Oddfellows, in the 1980’s he was a volunteer Firefighter for the Fairfield Fire Stations, and he was also a baseball coach for the Police Athletic League (PAL). Jack became a Shriner in June 1985, and was also a member of the Kennebec Valley Shrine Club. Jack was the type of person that enjoyed all of the activities and fundraising that others would benefit from. He enjoyed donating his time at the Kora Temple Shrine Circus, in Augusta, Maine for many years. He was a member of the Kora Flags and later a member of the Kora Karts. Jack was also a member of the Fairfield Center United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed making people laugh with one of his jokes and witty sense of humor. He loved talking on the phone with friends, as well as business clients, and spending time chatting with people on Facebook. He loved to aggravate and tease people, but it was all in fun. His laughter was contagious. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, enjoying good times and making memories. He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Warren Stanley, Sr. and Tempie Matilda (Hicks) Stanley; his only brother, Benjamin, Jr.; his sister, Maude and her husband, Michael Tameo; his sister, Sarah and her husband, Levi Stanley; and brothers-in-law, Carlo Pinucci and William McDonnell. He is survived by his wife Ruth; his five children and their families, Jack Jr., his wife Tina, and their children Jack, Matthew, Joshua, and Sarah, Daniel, Sr. and his children, Daniel, Jr. and Jacqueline, Levi, Sr., and his fiancé, Monique Rossignol, and his children, Levi, Jr. and Jennifer, Michael, Sr., his wife, Melissa and their children, Samantha, Michael, Jr. and Shelby, Elizabeth and her husband, John Hersey, and their children, Hannah, Haley, Emily, and Tyler. Jack is also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth McDonnell of Raymond, NH, and Minnie and her husband, Roland Voisine of Manchester, NH; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Stanley of Swansea, MA. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Jeremiah and Daniel; and many, many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic Ceremony to be held at 8 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2013, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, Maine. His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Lawry Brothers as well. Burial will follow at Tozier Cemetery in Fairfield, Maine. Friends and family are welcome to share memories at a gathering to be held at Best Western Plus in Waterville, Maine.
