Jeannette "Auntie" Stella Giroux Bilodeau Obituary (1935 - 2015)

Jeannette “Auntie” Bilodeau (Giroux) WATERVILLE - Jeannette Bilodeau, beloved wife of Robert and mother of Susan and John, passed away on December 8, 2015, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville, ME, at the age of 80. She was born to Royal and Yvette (Joler) Giroux on August 25, 1935, in Winslow. She was the third of eight children. Jeannette grew up in Waterville and was educated in the Waterville school system graduating from Waterville High School in 1953. She held many jobs throughout her life including: Lincolns, The Hathaway, Butlers, McLellans, and The Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, NH. While her husband worked as the drummer in the orchestra, Jeannette worked as a switchboard operator. They enjoyed their time together at the hotel and continued to work there for 10 years until poor health forced them to retire in 2004. Jeannette’s favorite job was as a babysitter. Her love of babies and children began at a young age when she would babysit her younger sisters, brother and cousin. This love would continue throughout her life as she would care for and love many children in the Waterville area. She is known as “Auntie” to these children whom she loved and cared for and they remained close to her heart. Jeannette was predeceased by her parents and her older brother, Robert Giroux. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Bilodeau; her daughter Susan Forbes and son-in-law Jim of Benton, ME. Her son, John Bilodeau and daughter-in-law, Denise, of Largo, FL, and their children and grand-children. One brother, David Giroux of Bangor, ME. Five sisters: Lucie Goodno and Theresa Hellikson of NC; Lorraine LeBlanc of Waterville, ME; Shirley Aube of Skowhegan, ME; and Esther Scott and brother-in-law, Roy Scott, of Waterville and also a sister-in-law, Sylvia Bilodeau of Brunswick, ME. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and God-children. The family of Jeannette would like to thank Lakewood Continuing Care Center. We are grateful for all of the CNAs, nurses, and staff within Moonlight Bay and all of Lakewood for the wonderful care they gave her. Especially her primary CNAs, Melissa and Johanna, for their continuing support and love for Jeannette. Per Jeannette’s wishes there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Notre Dame Church in Waterville, ME, on Monday, December 14 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeannette’s memory to the Activities Department at Lakewood Continuing Care in Waterville, ME. Jeannette loved music and singing and got so much joy from all the activities including music and singing.
