CHINA, MAINE--Joyce G. Cowing, 80, went with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2014, peacefully in her sleep. Joyce was born the daughter of Stetson W. Glendenning and Doris (Grady) Glendenning Milla in Palermo, Maine. She attended both Palermo, Maine and Augusta, Maine schools prior to graduating from Cony High school in 1951. Joyce did bookkeeping for Depositors Trust and was clerk for the Town of China for twenty five years until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Weeks Mills Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary unit 179, and Order of the Eastern Star Lily of the Valley chapter. Joyce' passions were her family, Bible study, ice cream, solitaire, crossword puzzles, travelling to Florida, and Willie Nelson Shows. In 1955 Joyce married Duane Douglas Cowing. During their 42 years of marriage they opened their hearts and home to special neighbors, elderly relatives, foster children, and many grandchildren. Joyce was predeceased by her parents her; husband; her son, Douglas Duane Cowing; and her nephews, Kevin and Sam. She is Survived by daughters, Florence H. Johnson and husband, Stuart of Rockland, Maine; Darlyne Lane and husband, Jim of Weeks Mills, Maine; her sons, Robert Field and his wife, Pam of Chelsea, Maine, and Dennis Field of Newburgh, Maine; her grandchildren, Sherry Slonina and her husband, Steve, Ryan Field and his wife, Jenni, Steve Field and his wife, Tammy, Rachel Hoover, Wade Hoover, Emily Lane, Grady Lane, Deanna Connon and her husband, Dana, Donna Cowing, Daniel Cowing, and Briana Field; "Great Gram" was beloved to Sam, Stephen, Christopher, Cheyann, Evy, Nathaniel, and Kevin; her sister, Jeanne Bigos and her husband, Theodore; her brother in-law, Mike Madden and his wife, Judy; her nephews, John, Pete, Jon, Patrick, and Michael; and special cousins, Jimmy Grady and his wife, Marie, and Dale Glendenning and his wife, Donzella. Visiting hours will be held at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home-Gray Chapel, 207 Windsor Neck Road in Windsor, Maine on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service to begin at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Weeks Mills Baptist Church: Address c/o Barbara Brann, 45 Weeks Mills Rd., South China ME 04358.
