Kathryn Fenton Chunko Obituary (1932 - 2015)

Lancaster, SC.-Kathryn Fenton Chunko, 83, died peacefully at her home on December 6, 2015, in Lancaster, SC, in the loving care of her daughters. She was born on May 21, 1932, in El Paso, Texas, a daughter of the late Dr. Frederick Azel Fenton and Maybelle Reed Fenton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 53 years, Paul Nicholson Chunko, Sr.; a son, Paul Nicholson Chunko, Jr.; and a sister, Judith Fenton Brown. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah C. Johnson, and her husband, Dr. R. Duren Johnson, of Lancaster, SC, Kathleen Chunko Mahoney, of Ashland, MA; a daughter-in-law, Lynn McCranie Chunko, of Belmont, NH; a brother, Keith Fenton, of Guthrie, OK; and grandchildren Colby Nicholson Mahoney, Brian Paul Mahoney, Kathryn Reed Mahoney, Amber Lynn Chunko, and Nicole Marie Chunko. She married and lived in New York, before moving to Framingham, Massachusetts, where she was employed by data translations as a draftsperson, before retiring with her husband to Clinton, Maine, where they built their retirement home. She spent her final years making a home in Lancaster, SC. Her interests included science, literature, and hand quilting. A graveside service and burial alongside her husband will be held on Friday, December 18, at 2 p.m. at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice, the Wounded Warrior Project, or the Humane Society of Lancaster, SC.
