Belgrade, ME: Leon E. Doyon 79, passed away on May 16, 2015 at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta, ME with his family by his side. He was born in Waterville, ME on February 13, 1936 the son of Lionel and Isella (Roy) Doyon. Leon was educated at Saint Francis Parochial School, and Waterville High School. He then entered the United States Marines, serving as a Corporal. He received the “Good Conduct Medal” and was very proud to have marched in the inaugural parade for President Eisenhower. He married Frances George and they raised their eight children in Oakland, ME where all eight graduated from Messalonskee High School. Leon worked in several Waterville, ME stores, and became employed with Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland, ME in 1960 until his retirement in 1995 due to ill health. Cascade was his home away from home. Leon was past adjutant and life time member of the Waterville VFW Post 1285, a member of the Decker-Simmons Post American Legion Post 51 in Oakland, ME, and a recipient of the National Aide de Camp Award. Leon was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Oakland, ME until its closing, and became a communicant of Corpus Christi Parish and attended Notre Dame Church in Waterville, ME. He and Frances lived in Oakland, ME for 35 years, and had lots of wonderful memories with family and friends including cook outs and playing horseshoes. They moved to Belgrade, ME in 1996 and really enjoyed their home there. Leon was well known for his holiday decorations and was very proud of his lawn and garden. They had many family gatherings and he was proud of his family, grandchildren and all their endeavors. He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots Fan. He will be missed by all. Leon was predeceased by his parents; a brother Lawrence; a sister, Irene Kidwell; and a special brother-in-law Andrew George. Surviving are his loving wife Frances; and two sons, Andrew and Betsy of Cornville, ME, and Peter and Pam of Sidney, ME, six daughters, Brenda and Bruce Sylvester of Oakland, ME, Catherine and Bill Routhier of Fairfield, ME, Darlene Doyon of Belgrade, ME, Susan Snow of Fairfield, ME, Carol Meader of Raymond, ME, and Sandra and Dan Trembly of Belgrade, ME, 11 grandsons, six granddaughters, three great grandsons and four great granddaughters. He is also survived by his siblings, Laurier and Jean Doyon of Connecticut, Gerard of Fairfield, ME, Richard and Grace of Oakland, ME, Robert and Sandra of Winslow, ME, Bernard and Collette of Rome, ME and Armand of Oakland, ME, his sister Yvette Bard of Winslow, ME; many nieces, nephews and in-laws. One last time guys, as grampa says “The party’s over-hit the road” Friends are invited to visit 6-8 PM on Tuesday, May 19, at Lawry Brothers-Wheeler, 26 Church Street, Oakland, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church in Waterville, ME Wednesday, May 20, at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at the Pine Grove cemetery in Belgrade, ME.
