Lucas John Fortin Obituary (1986 - 2016)

Vassalboro, ME- Lucas John Fortin, 30, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, March 12, 2016. He was born in Waterville, Maine on March 10, 1986. He is the son of John D. Fortin, of North Pond Road in Winslow, ME and Heidi Flewelling of Leeds, ME. While attending Lawrence High School he worked at the Hawes farm in Albion, ME and graduated in 2004. After high school he moved to Vassalboro, ME with Jessica and her family and worked for Rick Suga milking cows and logging. He also worked at Wildwood Stables in Acadia National Park driving horse drawn carriages on the carriage roads. In May of 2006 Lucas and Jessica joyously welcomed a daughter Amber Marie and married on March 11, 2007. In 2007 while working for Cianbro, he received his welding degree from Kennebec Valley Community College. March of 2008, their family was completed by welcoming a son Liem Marcus. Luke was an amazing father, husband, and friend and had a very special bond with his farm animals. The summer of 2009 they started their farm with his pride and joy Percheron horses King and Lady and draft saddle cross Indy. He loved to be with his horses, cows, and pigs alongside his wife and children. Their summers were spent haying fields in Winslow and Fairfield, ME, where he taught Amber and Liem how to mow, ted, rake and bale hay! His dear friend, John Stovall and daughter Mackenzie as well Rosa Cachu and her children Nevaeh, Addison, and Emma were like family to him, his wife and children. He loved spending time with them and the children called him Uncle Luke. From 2010-2013 he worked at Bath Iron Works as a welding supervisor. In 2013, wanting to be closer to home so he could enjoy his children growing up, he went to work for the Town of Winslow where he loved to plow snow! November 2015 he returned to BIW and was offered a welding supervisor position just prior to his death. Luke enjoyed watching his children standing on the sidelines of each football, soccer, basketball, and baseball, field or court. Luke was a member of Cub Scout Pack 445 in Winslow, ME with his son Liem and Nephew Addison. Luke enjoyed helping all the boys in the Pack make Pinewood Derby cars, Rain-gutter Regatta boats, soda bottle rockets. He taught the boy’s orientation skills and going on trips to Boston Museum of Science, the Flood Farm, Winslow Fire Department, and camping in Vassalboro, ME. Luke served as on the Pack Committee as the Member at Large. He is Predeceased by his Maternal Grandmother Betty Flewelling (Starbird); and Paternal Grandparents Leo and Louella Fortin. Luke is survived by his loving wife Jessica (Willett) Fortin; children Amber and Liem Fortin; mother Heidi Flewelling and partner Kevin Wade of Leeds, ME; his father John D. Fortin of North Pond Rd. in Winslow, ME; brothers, Nick Fortin and daughters Kelsi and Blair and sons Wyatt and Spencer, Ben Fortin and wife Amy and their daughters Addison and Lexi; and his sister Heather Flewelling. He also leaves behind his in-laws Ronald and Kerry Willett who he shared a special bond with; his sister in laws, Samantha Willet and Fiancé Isaac LeBlanc, Catherine and Husband Joshua Richard and son Wyatt, Rebecca Willett; and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins whom he loved. A very special thank you to his Uncle Kervyn and Tracy Willett and Delta Ambulance teams for their heroic efforts. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, ME. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Old Mill on Main Street in Vassalboro, ME.
