Luke P. Shorty Obituary (1930 - 2013)

WATERVILLE, MAINE--Luke P. Shorty, 82, of Waterville, Maine passed away from a long illness on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home. Luke was born in Waterville, Maine on June 29, 1930, the son of Fred and Nora (Bushey) Shorty. He was educated in Waterville schools and served in the armed forces stationed in Korea. He married his beloved wife, Gladys A. Shorty, in 1949, and raised their six children in Fairfield. After his retirement from the Chinet Company (now Huhtamaki), he lived in Zephyr Hills, Florida for sixteen wonderful years, where he had many friends, until illness brought him back to Maine. Luke was a very dedicated family man and enjoyed many summers at McGrath Pond camping and boating. He enjoyed being with his family and friends any place there was an outing. Luke was predeceased by his wife Gladys; his son, David; his parents, Fred and Nora Shorty; his brothers, Eugene and Robert Shorty; and his sisters, Elizabeth Poulin and Priscilla Roberge. He is survived by a son, Roger Shorty and his wife, Wanda, of Fairfield, Maine; four daughters, Marie Rancourt and her husband, Reginald, of Sidney, Maine, Linda Boone of Fairfield, Maine, Sandra Tibbetts and her husband, Tony, of Winslow, Maine, and Jane Miller and her husband, John, of Clinton, Maine; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); one great great grandson; one brother, Donald Shorty of Zephyr Hills, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25 at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville, Maine.
