Maxine E. (Downer) Fowler Obituary (1934 - 2017)

THORNDIKE - Maxine E. (Downer) Fowler, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on May 7, 2017. She was born November 16, 1934, in Freedom, the daughter of Fremont K. Downer and Genevieve D. (McDonald) Downer. Maxine was a graduate of Freedom Academy. She married the love of her life, Stephen G. Fowler, Sr., on November 3, 1956, in Thorndike. Together, they raised a family of six boys on their dairy farm in Thorndike. Maxine enjoyed being a homemaker and devoting her time to her husband and sons. Her grandchildren always looked forward to Friday night suppers at Grammy's. She loved to shop and never turned down a good bargain and as her husband has often said, "there is only one Maxine, she is one of a kind!" Maxine was predeceased by her parents; and one brother, Ronald C. Downer. Maxine was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Ronald C. Downer. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Stephen G. Fowler, Sr.; sons, Jeffrey D. Fowler; Perry D. Fowler; Stephen "Stevie" G. Fowler, Jr.; Gary A. Fowler and his wife, Jennifer; David W. Fowler and his wife, Angela; and Gerald W. Fowler, all of Thorndike; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Maxine is also survived by her siblings, Bertha Maxim (Donald), Milford Downer (Gail), Allen Downer (Letitia), Clayton Downer (Jeanne), Carlene Bourgoin (Raymond), Rodney Downer (Linda), and Norene Linscott (Jeffrey); as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends. Relatives and friends may call from 3-6 p.m., on Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield. A private funeral service will be held at the Center Thorndike Baptist Church followed by committal service at the Center Cemetery in Thorndike.
