Obituary

January 12, 2013 Belgrade: Meldora M. Tompkins, 102 died Friday January 11, 2013 at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville. She was born in Mexico, Maine on December 4, 1910 the daughter of Alphonse and Olive (Paul) Barnard. Meldora attended schools in Mexico and graduated from Farmington Normal School. Meldora was a foster parent to over twenty children at her Belgrade home. She and her husband, Harry owned and operated a family farm in Belgrade for many years. She was an amazing cook, an avid bingo player, and loved to fish. Meldora was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Meldora was predeceased by her husband Harry, a daughter Kathleen Bisson, and grandson Shawn. Surviving are grandchildren Jackie Ruman Herrin of Vienna, Steven Ruman of Greene, and Sherry Ruman of Winthrop. Foster daughter Ella Plaisted and husband David of Belgrade, their children Heather Young, David Young and wife Carrie and Ethan Plaisted all of Belgrade. Foster son Lee Merrill and wife Mayimo, and their daughter Angeles Elisa of Belair Maryland. She will be missed by special friends Sandra and Dick Brown and Racheal and Lois Goodwin, and her dog and constant companion Twiggy. A grave side service will be held in the spring at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oakland. Www.wheelerfh.com.
