WATERVILLE – Onesime J. “Zim” Cote Jr., 82, of Vassalboro, died Tuesday, December 27th, 2011, after a brief illness at Maine General Medical Center, Thayer Campus. He was born in Waterville, October 24th, 1929, the son of Onesime and Stella (Proulx) Cote Sr. Educated in local schools, Zim served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. A member of Corpus Christi Parish for years attending St. Francis Church, where he was a lector and sang in the choir. Most recently, Zim attended St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow.
Zim worked for the Morning Sentinel for over 38 years as a foreman on the press. After his retirement, Zim developed a passion for Beano and became the Beano Manager for the VFW in Winslow. He loved the outdoors-hunting, fishing and working in the woods. He especially enjoyed cutting his own wood from his land in Vassalboro.
He was predeceased, along with his parents, by his wife Marie; a son, Michael; a daughter, Melissa; two sisters, Arlene Graham and Jeannette Doucette; and a brother, Francis Cote.
Surviving are a daughter, Michelle Duquette and her husband Carl of Augusta; three brothers, Everett Cote, Carl Cote and his wife Ruth, and Leo Cote, all of Waterville; two sisters, Lucille Giroux of Winslow and Dorothy Bernier of Waterville; a special nephew, David Cote and his partner Meredith Tardiff; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, December 29th at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday, December 30th at Notre Dame Church, Winslow. Burial will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.
