Randolph Von Pamphrey Obituary (1966 - 2018)

Fairfield- Randolph Von Pamphrey, 51, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2018, after a brief illness. Randy was surrounded by his son and family at the time of his death, listening to his favorite Led Zeppelin songs. Randy was born in Waterville, Maine on December 7, 1966 to Pamela (Libby) and Larry Pamphrey. He attended school in Leeds, Clinton, and Fairfield, graduated from Lawrence High School in 1985 and attended USM for one year. While at Lawrence, Randy was well-known for his athletic achievements in football, basketball, baseball and track. The numerous friendships he made in school and on the athletic fields have endured the test of time. Randy worked in many trades over the years such as landscaping, dock building, and photography. Widely known for his ability to catch a beautiful moment or emotion on film, Randy used his skill in photography to bring joy to so many. It’s what kept him connected to the community, his friends, family and the spirit of LHS. Randy’s creative nature was also found in his interest in collections, gardening and cooking. He had a keen eye for antiques, unusual trinkets, rocks, and had his father’s skill in gardening which led to an interest in cooking. Friendships came easy to Randy. Everyone who knew him considered him a friend; he was generous, kind-hearted, and honest. Never one to say a negative thing about another person, Randy was easy to trust and confide in. He had a contagious laugh and a found humor in the oddities of life. A gifted athlete, Randy was respected for his fierce determination and sportsmanship. Randy earned his black belt in karate from Huard’s in Winslow, ME. Not only was it a physical outlet for his energy, strength and competitive nature, but karate also shaped his outlook and philosophy on life. Randy was, however, most proud of his son, Derek John. Randy is survived by his mother, Pamela (Libby) Pamphrey, father Larry Pamphrey, son Derek Pamphrey of Fairfield, sister Libbi Pamphrey of South Portland, sister Heather Wilson and her husband Dan of Fairfield; brother Kenneth Pamphrey of Fairfield; nephew Jake Wilson and his wife Jessica of Benton, nieces Samantha and Summer of Fairfield, many cousins, aunts, and uncles, and not least of all, his special friend Debbie Park. Visiting hours will be held at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield on Wednesday, April 25 from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm. A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at Fairfield United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 26 at 11:00 am. A private burial will be held at a later date with the immediate family. The family would like to thank the staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center Intensive Care Unit for their heroic efforts. In lieu of flowers or donations, we would like to encourage you to plant your favorite fruit, vegetable, flower or tree in Randy’s honor this spring or summer.
