Robert
Greene
Jan 26, 1933 — Oct 6, 2012
ROBERT H. GREENE 1933-2012 WATERVILLE--It was not a life of excess or extreme success, but it was filled with love and the legacy of Robert H. Greene will live on in the lives of those who knew him. Bob joined his wife Elaine as an angel in Heaven on Saturday, October 6, 2012. For those who loved him, it was a sad and bittersweet day, for we knew he was no longer in pain and was once again whole. Bob s life began on January 26, 1933, in the small eastern town of Pembroke, Maine where he grew up, caused a little mischief, helped support his family, honored his country by joining the Army and serving in Korea and eventually met his true love, Elaine. Shortly after they married, Bob and Elaine, along with his brother Dick and his wife Kay, ventured out of their small hometown and moved to the metropolis of Waterville. It was there that Bob began a thirty year career as a conductor with Maine Central Railroad, where he earned the nickname, Mad Dog. Bob worked tirelessly to provide for his family, working many long nights and twelve hour runs. When he was not working on the railroad, he could be found at home, planting his vegetable garden, going to his son s little league games, playing cards with friends or when you didn t know where he was, he could be found at the neighbor s house yacking away. After 47 years of marriage, Bob found himself widowed and a little lost. Luckily through the love of those around him, he kept going. He found himself becoming the handyman for the widowed ladies on Rices Rips Road, the grandpop of his beloved beagle, Indy and the proud Papa to Wyatt and Hope. There was nothing Papa loved more than to spoil his two munchkins. In his last few years, Bob was blessed to have found love again with Patricia Dudley. They could often be found going on driving adventures, eating out (The Red Barn, Dairy Queen and Applebee s might go out of business now), watching the Red Sox or Polka Party on TV and rediscovering life. Bob s life will be remembered by those he leaves behind: his son Michael Greene; his daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Michael Keller; his grandchildren, Wyatt and Hope Keller; his companion Patty Dudley; his brother and his wife, Dick and Kay Greene; his brother and sister in law, Dale and Jane Sturk; his brother and his wife, Gary and Gladys Greene; as well as several nieces and nephews and cherished family friends. Bob s family and friends will join together to remember his spirit and celebrate his life on Monday, October 8 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and during a graveside service on Tuesday, October 9 at 11 am at Lewis Cemetery in Oakland. Somewhere in heaven a new deck of cards is being shuffled and the men and women of Rices Rips Road are getting ready to deal a new hand.
