Unity, ME: Robert C. Potter 79, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Oakland, ME on October 3, 1935, the son of George and Olive (Philbrick) Potter. Bob attended Sidney, ME schools and graduated from Williams High School in Oakland, ME Class of 1954. He then entered the US Marine Corps, receiving an honorable medical discharge in 1955. Returning to Maine, he married Geraldine Dorval of Waterville, ME. After a year in Connecticut, he returned to work on a poultry farm for Francis Clark. Six years later he was hired by James Kenney of Jim’s Peeled Potato Service of Unity, ME where he delivered potatoes and produce for many years. Through Jim Kenney he took over a tractor and trailer and ran the east coast for G & L Cole of Troy, ME. The Cole brothers took over the tractor-trailer and he went to work for Bryant Steel Works of Thorndike, ME. After a few years he resigned and went to Motor Trucks in Winslow, ME as a tire repairman. When Motor Trucks moved to Bangor, ME, he went to work for Zimba Company in Fairfield, ME doing truck repair and warehouse work. During a period of slow business he was hired by R.L. Hodges of Unity, ME as a mechanics helper, maintaining trucks and trailers. He was predeceased by his wife of 20 years, Nancy Rowe Potter in 2007; a sister, Ellen Thomson Simmons; and brother, Arthur Potter. Surviving are a brother, Harry Potter and wife, Sharon of Watertown, NY.; two sons, Robert A. Potter and companion, Maria Guarente of Vinal Haven, ME, and Mark Potter and wife, Cynthia of Oakland, ME; two daughters, Carey Valli and husband, Robert of Holliston, MA., and Michelle Miller and husband, Todd of Strafford, NH.; a step daughter, Ellen Stevens of Unity, ME; two stepsons, Craig Stevens of Unity, ME, and Raymond Stevens of Nashville, TN.; six grandchildren; and three great grandsons. Friends are invited to visit Saturday, May 9 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Lawry Brothers-Wheeler, 26 Church Street in Oakland, ME followed by a funeral service with Masonic memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Reynolds Hill Cemetery in Sidney, ME.
