Sheila Dawn Leighton Obituary (1943 - 2012)

BURNHAM, MAINE—Sheila Dawn Leighton, 69, of Burnham, Maine passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, April 23, 2012. She was born in Unity, Maine on April 8, 1943, the daughter of the late Allan and Velma (Shorey) MacDonald. Sheila graduated from Bessie High School in Albion, Maine and continued her education at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, Maine while raising her five children. Her employment began as a Certified Nurses Assistant at Pleasant Hill Nursing Home in Fairfield, Maine and she retired from MaineGeneral Medical Center-Thayer Campus in Waterville, Maine as a Registered Nurse. On her birthday in 1993, Sheila married the love of her life, Verdie E. Leighton. The couple spent 34 wonderful years together. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with her husband. Sheila also enjoyed bingo, her flower and vegetable gardens, wine making, cooking, knitting and crocheting. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Norman and James MacDonald; and three sisters, Roberta Tobey, Sharon Grove, and Susan McArthur. Sheila will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Verdie E. Leighton; her children, Deborah Leighton of Brewer, Maine, Daniel Leighton and his wife, Jeannette of Massachusetts, Cynthia Paradis and her husband, Roy of Pittsfield, Maine, Penny Brousseau and her husband, Wilfred of Madison, Maine, Kevin Leighton and his wife, Mary of Oklahoma, Alana King and her husband, Richard of New Hampshire, Paula Lewis and her husband, Joseph “JB” of Benton, Maine, Deborah Greene and her husband, Hawley of Winslow, Maine, Eric Leighton and his wife, Lisa of Burnham, Maine, and Paul Campbell III and his wife, Tina of Burnham, Maine; her sisters, Rose “Posy” Stoutamyer, Sandra Flye, and Kathy O’Clair; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
