Shirley Flye Tilton 1920-2013 Sidney, In loving memory of Shirley Flye Tilton born in Montville, November 17, 1920, died July 28, 2013, the daughter of Winfield S. and Vera Jennie Bacon Flye. Shirley graduated from Freedom Academy class of 1939. She played basketball and won the County Championship that year. Married Harvey V. Tilton January 31, 1942. She and her husband operated their own dairy, poultry, and market garden farm for many years in Sidney. She worked for Diamond National in Oakland for 25 years. She loved to go hunting with family and enjoyed bingo and was an avid horse racing fan. Shirley was known for her home baked pies. She also found joy in her love of gardening, her flowers, family gatherings, and music. She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Harvey V. Tilton in 2000 and 10 siblings: Walter Flye, Winola Flye Studley, Mildred Flye Davis, Alvin Flye, Ray Flye, Freda Flye Hall, Carleton Flye, Paul Flye, Winfield, and Cecil. She is survived by one sister, Geraldine E. Walsh and husband Richard, Florida; two brother-in-laws, Dean Tilton and wife Christine, Florida, Ronald and wife Nancy, Windham ; 7 sister-in-laws, Belle Flye, Connecticut, Francis Faxon, Palermo, Rose Norton, Florida, Lucille McCaslin, Winslow, Rachel Gibbs , Connecticut, Esmer Tilton, Waterville, and Bernadette Tilton Douglas, Idaho; her two sons Dale V. Tilton and wife Sandi, Sidney and Dennis H. Tilton and wife Sharon , Sidney. Four grandchildren, Jennifer Tilton-Flood and husband Dana, Clinton; Katya Tilton, Benton; Jillian Tilton and Rodney Spear, Sidney; Stephen Tilton and wife Sarah, Yarmouth, two Step-grandchildren, Scott Dustin and wife Sarah, Kittery and Jeff Dustin and wife Shannon, Belgrade. Six great-grandchildren, Lilla and Prescott Tilton-Flood, Thomas and Cooper LaPlante, Ryan Levesque, and Summer Tilton and many loving nieces, nephews, and neighbors and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at the Springer Cemetery, River Road, Sidney with Pastor Dave White officiating. A reception to follow. The family wishes to thank the staff at Lakewood Care Center and Health Reach Hospice for the excellent care given Shirley during her illness.
