Terrance G. Hughes Sr. Obituary (1942

Oakland: Terrence G. Hughes Sr. 72, passed away Friday October 24, 2014 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was born in Old Town on June 18, 1942 the son of Almira Peggy Languette and Roland Hughes. Terrence graduated from Winslow High School Class of 1960 and from Kennebec Valley Vocational School Welding Program. After graduation he joined the US Navy Sea Bee s and was stationed in Antarctica. He was employed as a Millwright Mechanic at Keyes Fibre Company for 26 years, retiring in 2003. Following his retirement from Keyes Fibre, He worked for the Kennebec County Sherriffs Department for 10 years. Terrence was an active Mason, He was a 32nd Degree, Past Most Wise Master, Scottish Rites Valley of Augusta, Messalonskee Lodge in Oakland, Anna Shrine in Bangor, Chapter, Council and Commandry of Oakland. He was a member of the Waterville Elks Club and a member of the Waterville V.F.W. He served on the Budget and Advisory Committee for the Town of Oakland. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Waterville Country Club. He was a big sports fan, following the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Compassionate and thoughtful, there were many things he did for others, including knitting hats and mittens for the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter. He was predeceased by his father Roland Hughes, his sister Pamela DeRaps, and his step father Arthur Languette. Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Charlotte Hughes of Oakland, his children, Tracy Anderson of Virginia Beach Va., Terry Hughes Jr and wife Kim of Rome, Bethanny Welch and husband Kevin of Sidney, Keith Rackleff and wife Angela of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Peter Rackleff and wife Kim of Sidney and Tammy Giroux and husband Andrew of Winslow. 2 brothers, Roland Hughes and wife Verna of Unity, and Herbert Hughes and wife Michelle of Exeter, NH. 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews. Committal Prayers with military honors followed by burial will be Noon Thursday October 30 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta. Following the service, a celebration of his life will be held at the Messalonskee Masonic Lodge.
