FAIRFIELD, MAINE-- Thomas Todd FitzGerald, age 58, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21 2013. Tom was born in Mendon, Massachusetts, the son of Chester FitzGerald and Hazel Magaziner. Thomas graduated from Malvern High School in Malvern, PA and Unity College in Unity, Maine. Tom was Vice President of D.L.Thurrott of Waterville, Maine Tom was an avid sailor and a man who loved spending time with his family and friends. He lived for his best friend and wife, children and grandsons, who he adored. His biggest joy in life was teaching his children and grandchildren to sail, fish and love the water. Tom knew how to enjoy life and was always happy doing what he loved most. He lived a wonderful life with a smile on his face, although it was too short, he truly lived every moment to the fullest. He was the best father and Papa in the world. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandsons, and anyone who had the privilege to sail with him. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to leave the world a better place, to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded.” Tom…Dad…Papa...you succeeded. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl FitzGerald; daughters, Jennifer FitzGerald and Melissa FitzGerald Drew; son-in-law, Nicolas Drew; grandchildren, Emerson and Hudson FitzGerald-Drew; future son-in-law, Frankie Griffin; his brother, Mark FitzGerald; his sisters, Lee Logan, Amy Barnett and Jill Furgesson; and his mother, Hazel. The family will be setting sail in his honor to celebrate his life in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and on Great Pond, both locations have fond memories. The public is welcome to celebrate Tom’s life with the family on October 12 at 2 p.m., on Dane Lane in Belgrade, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alfond Youth Center in Tom’s name towards the establishment and future development of a sailing program at Day Camp Tracy located on McGrath Pond Oakland, ME.
