Obituary

WINDSOR, MAINE—Whitcomb “Gale” G. Rutledge, 81, of Windsor, Maine passed away following a long illness on Friday, December 14, 2012. He was born in Victory Township, Iowa on February 13, 1931, the son of the late Whitcomb G. and Lucy B. Rutledge. Gale was a graduate of Erskine Academy. Following his schooling, he served with the Army and was stationed on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire in a meteorological position. In 1956, he married the former Carolyn Brann. The couple lived in Jefferson, Maine for a time and in 1960, moved to their newly built home on Rt. 17 in Windsor, Maine. He was employed for many years by O'Connor's Junkyard, later known as Industrial Metals in Augusta, Maine. Gale enjoyed spending time with his family, watching TV, eating his goodies, day trips to the coast, and camping in Bar Harbor, Maine and Conway, New Hampshire. He was a very good artist and in his younger years enjoyed motorcycles, especially Indian motorcycles. Spending time with his cat, Hoodie, was also very special to Gale. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Carolyn; and his son, Alan Rutledge. Gale will be sadly missed by his daughter, Valerie Rutledge of Windsor, Maine; his sons, Craig Rutledge of Windsor, Maine, and Brent Rutledge of Daleville, Alabama; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visiting hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. with a funeral service to begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 17 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home-Gray Chapel, 207 Windsor Neck Rd., Windsor, Maine. Burial will be in the spring at Rest Haven Cemetery in Windsor, Maine.
